On the first day there, we went hiking at a nearby state park. We had some great tour guides (Bryce & Taegan) and it was when we first realized that I didn't pack enough cold weather clothes - I mean it was mid-July so long pants didn't even cross my mind. At least I grabbed jackets for the girls and me. :)
Lana loved all the nature. She found a banana slug & carried it around on this stick for a bit. She also asked Bryce to name almost every plant we came across.
We took a trip to something called "Saturday Market" where artists & craftsmen had booths set up for their wares. It was fun to leisurely walk around while looking at the pretty goods. Papa & Nonnie bought clay necklace whistles in the shapes of ladybugs for the girls and afterward we took the trolley over to this sand castle "show". We even got to see people working on some of the structures.
We also went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. It was definitely larger than any Farmer's Market I'd ever been to. They had delicious food, fresh meat, bread and of course vegetables & fruits. I had a fruit crepe with lemon curd and Kevin had a handmade tamale that he said was the best tamale he'd ever had. The girls loved the balloon artist & also enjoyed a muffin or two as well!
The girls had fun driving around in the car with different people to ride with. Here they are with Taegan - showing off their cute french braids that Phyllis did.
Sunday morning we went to VooDoo Donuts and had a wacky morning snack. Kevin got their famous VooDoo Doll Donut - shaped like a voodoo doll & it came with a pretzel stick to "stick" your doll with. I got an "Old Dirty Bastard" donut that was a glazed raised donut with chocolate frosting & oreo cookies on top & peanut butter drizzled over it. The girls each got one with mini M&Ms on it. The bakery had been featured on Food Network so it was fun to experience it in person!
Here's a picture of the whole group of us! This was taken after we enjoyed our donuts and before we took a leisurely walk through a local rose garden that had thousands of varieties of roses to smell & enjoy.
On Sunday or Monday (can't remember which one!) we went on the Ariel Tram. It was a cloudy day but still very beautiful. The girls LOVED riding on these.
At the top of the tram ride we walked around to look at the view and took a few family photos. Here is a nice one of our host family. Thanks so much to Bryce & Taegan for letting our family take over their bedroom!
The "boys" with their dad. :) I just can't see the family resemblance. ;)
This is what Nonnies are good for. :)
Had to throw this picture in - taken while waiting for the tram trip back down the hill.
We also had lots of fun around the Portland Snyder house. Here is Nonnie holding Nolan while he has an after-nap snack.
Papa with his grand-daughters in their beautiful backyard!
The boys working the grill. Kevin gave up a bit of arm hair to the cause. ;) We were fed very well the whole time we were there. Isn't that part of a great vacation?... to have great food? :)
Maya using a spoon! Open wide!
Taegan shows off her piano skills. All of us, especially my girls were VERY impressed. :)
The girls lining up pistachio shells with Bryce. Pistachio nuts were a big novelty with the girls for the trip.
In the sun room they had two long tables covered with white butcher paper and the kids loved coloring on the table cloth!
We turned the sprinklers on one day when it wasn't too cool and they kids enjoyed running through them and spraying each other.
We had plenty of rest time as well. :) Here Maya snuggling with her favorite aunt don't tell Terrilyn ;)
Nap time on daddy!
Nolan took a snooze on Kevin.
Lana used Bryce's shoulder as a pillow...
Kevin's iPhone was a huge novelty for Bryce & Taegan. Here is Kevin keeping the kids entertained... and resting. :)
We had a great time on this trip and can't wait for the next reunion!
