Poor Lana & her eyes... when she was little she got pink eye all the time and she's had swollen eyelids three times in her life. This time we had mixed opinions over what caused it. A trip to the ER said it was an infection of the lining of the eye (caused by a bug bite or scratch to the eyelid) & a follow-up appt with the physician's assistant at our doctor said it was probably just a mosquito bite. All I know is that it was a 2 week ordeal! She had to have antibiotics for 14 days (2 times a day) & pregnazone (a steriod to help the swelling decrease) for 5 days (3 times a day).
This is her eye after being on meds for 1 day - not much better. We really had some struggles with taking that much medicine.
So on day 8, Lana woke up with a rash (she threw up her medicine the night before). We called the doctor and ended up taking her to Urgent Care to verify that it was an allergic reaction to her antibiotic.
She is now allergic to amoxicillin and sulpha drugs (both antibiotics). At least the rash didn't itch too bad. We stopped the antibiotics since her eye was better and started her on Benedryl for the rash. She took a double dose of that every six hours for 3-1/2 days.
Poor kid had to take so much medicine but look at the positive attitude she had!
