The fire tenders. (Lana even moved some firewood around with the fire gloves). Notice that we brought Triscuit along on this trip. It was his very first camping trip & he did surprisingly well other than the fact that he barked at every single person who walked by our campsite... we'll have to work on that.
Roasting marshmallows is THE BEST camping activity. Before the "other" Dills arrived we went fishing & hiking - but since it had rained so hard the night before it was a tad muddy. They didn't catch any fish but Kevin attempted to catch several crayfish.
Eventually the rest of the Dills arrived. The kids rode their scooters & played some games. Also - there were TONS of butterflies all over the campground so the girls had fun catching them. After dinner we made campfire cones (an idea I found on pinterest). We had various kinda of candy chips and nuts & mini marshmallows to fill the ice cream cones & then wrapped them in aluminum foil & put them over the fire. Jess liked that dessert better than smores (but I'm still a sucker for a good smore!)
The men who made our dinner.
The next morning we went hiking. Here is the crew (minus me of course).
These trees were all over the place. Jess identified it as a Honey Locust Tree.
Taking a water break (and chasing butterflies).
Janae pointing out all the butterflies & leading the way.
We camped at Clinton Lake & they have a nice little beach area there. It was really hot on Saturday so after our hike (and lunch) we went to the beach.
The older girls building... something. :)
We had a really nice trip but our family went home a little early - we were supposed to stay through dinner but were so exhausted after two nights of camping & then hiking & swimming. We left & got home & CRASHED by 8:00 that night in our own beds. (Yes - all of us - actually Kevin & I fell asleep on the couch while watching TV after dinner with the kids & Lana woke us up to ask us if they could please go to bed).
