First activity was camp songs. This woman was a music teacher at an Elementary school in our Service Unit & she was fabulous.
Designing super hero masks.
Showing off her new mask & cape!
Super Janae!
During some free time we had - we went to our unit home & learned a new game: "Poor Kitty!". The person who is "it" is a kitty cat & crawls around the circle "meowing" trying to get people to laugh at her. If you laugh - you are "it". Simple, but a game they had lots of fun playing.
Janae, Jada & Naomi - getting ready to roast marshmallows.
Payton, Mallory (leader's daughter) & Opal
Kate, Lauren & Caitlyn
Mariyah, Brooklyn B. & Brooklyn M.
Roasting marshmallows!
Yummy s'mores!
Afterward we went inside & got a lesson in making a campfire using edible items.
Janae "lighting" her campfire.
Putting out her fire safely with her water bucket & fire stick (shaved coconut & pixie stick).
Our troop hiking to our next activity!
Super Janae!
Janae's troop full of Superheros!
Our perma-tent.
It rained on Day 2 so instead of swimming, we played poor kitty, "down by the banks" & several other indoor games.
Janae found a snail friend. Do you like her swap hat? Kids walk up to other kids & ask to swap items - once they reach an agreement on what things to swap, they do their exchange.
Day Three - I was with Lana's troop!
Lana's turn to make a mask.
They got to color flip-books when they were done.
Another superhero kid!
Lana's troop of superheros
Learning some new songs
Operation Wildlife came to talk to us & brought several owls to show the kids.
During team building - they had to figure out how to do several things as a team. They can't let a board be empty or it "floats away" & they have to get everyone to the other side.
Gotta fit everyone on the same board!
They needed an extra volunteer so I got to help in the next task. We had two teams & had to get water from one end of the line down into the bucket at the other end of the line.
Unfortunately our team mates were spilling more water than the other team - but having a lot while doing it!
We got snow cones on the last day & then spent time signing each others shirts.
Our last activity was the nurse's station. We learned about simple first aid.
Day 1 was very hot - High of 97 & quite humid.
Day 2 was 90s & it rained around lunchtime (thunder & lightning).
Day 3 was beautiful - high of 85 & a nice breeze.
